Valdštejn Castle is one of the oldest castles in the Bohemian Paradise region, founded around 1260 by Jaroslav of Hruštice, a member of the Markvartic family. Originally a strategic fortress, it served as the ancestral seat of the Wallenstein (Valdštejn) family before falling into disrepair during the 16th century.
In the 18th century, the castle underwent a significant transformation under the Lexa of Aehrenthal family, who converted the ruins into a romantic pilgrimage site. Today, the site features a unique blend of medieval fortifications, a stone bridge adorned with statues, and Baroque architectural elements, serving as a cultural landmark in the Liberec Region.
